RICHARD MARSHALL
“Richard started his professional career as a DJ in 2000 with a 2 year long residency at the Fez friday night ‘Strutt’. This spawned guest appearences in major clubs all over the country, and sets next to some of the biggest names in house.
The end of 2002 saw a change in musical focus, and moving away from the Fez saw another 2 year long residency at Marvel, this time weekeends were spent playing the haunts of Long st and the upper Cape Town surrounds. After regular guest slots he became a resident of industrial sounds at Orchard Bank where true adaptation to atmosphere is the key as anything applies.
Mid 2006 and the opening of Roosevelt saw yet another long term residency begin, and here he’ll be found playing anything on a friday night from indie rock to house, jazz to dub, and electro and house on saturdays. Outside of these permanent commitments he is frequently found in DJ boxes across the city, from Fiction to The Waiting Room, Opium and Caprice.
His work with top local labels is noted and he has been involved with the best. African Dope, Khaya, Tubby Munkey and the sShadoworkss crew have all been a part of the journey. He also enjoys being the support DJ for bands the likes of Closet Snare, The Hogs and the Dirty Skirts.”
DANK
I am a producer/DJ from cape town aka dank. I Thrive on music and anything to do with music, it is my life. I have been DJ’ing for about 6 to 7 years now and would be confident enough to play anywhere my music is welcome. I have been producing music for 3 years now. I enjoy producing music a lot more than DJ’ing because its your own stuff weather it be fresh or not, I would like to think my own beats are fresh. The music I produce follows quite a weird vibe, I like to call it fat analogue stuff. It doesn’t have a massive following but it is getting bigger. I get most of my influences from Danny Breaks, Tipper, Mr Oizo, Sibot and many many more great producers.
I am a resident dj at Fiction Bar cape town long street and have been for more than half a year. I play there on the Kung Pow Breaks night every wednessday. This a new project seems to be building nicely.. I have also played at Orchard Bank, Mercury Live, Tokyo Star, Origin Fest, Marvel (when it was still kiff), Zula Bar, And other places. I have been the supporting act for such acts as The Real Estate Agents, Lark, Freq Nasty and Dj dunkan.
Dank loves music that makes the hair on the body stand up and if you are producing music like this good for you and keep it real, never ever sell out.
Stay true to yourself and keep heads nodding with the fat drums and analogue bass. Solo album is in the process so give it a listen when it comes.
MICROSTRIPE
Microstripe is a DJ and promoter for Big Love Events, HUB Productions, Sound Squad and the Liquidfridge. Moving between drum n bass, breaks, electro and hip hop, she has played at a number of venues around Cape Town since 2001, as well as gigs in Joburg and London. Some of these include the Obs and Long Street festivals, her own annual New Years Eve outdoor electronica festival and all the Big Love parties.
Recently she has played alongside UK breaks producer General Midi on his SA tour. Microstripe has a show on local internet radio www.muthafm.com every Tuesday from 8-10pm, and has played previously on Bush radio, UCT radio and Spectrum radio.
Nisker:one
Nisker:one has been playing drum & bass in Cape Town since the beginning of 2004 alongside partner in crime, SFR aka Overturn. These two quickly planted their feet firmly in the Drum & Bass scene, hosting events and presenting radio shows on UCT Radio and now Mutha Fm.
To date, Nisker:one has played at most major events including Nightvision ‘05 & ’06, Obsfest ’05 & ’06, The Insanity Festival and New Years Revolutions to name but a few and also landing a weekly residency at one of Cape Town’s leading venues, Fiction.
The sound that emerges from the speakers when Nisker:one is in the driving seat can be described as a bowl of deep, pulsating subs mixed with fast two step rhythms and topped with subtle hints of dub, electro, jazz and funk. To borrow a phrase from Hospital Records, a Nisker:one set is best described as “Fast Soul Music”.
