Surley the trance head that wrote this "media release" could've skipped a day of taking acid to write it...

Trance is no good sober, you would have to endure listening to the music.
chew some mushrooms and lick a cap and the music takes on a new dimension.
Regan from Vortex can spin some bass driven beats.
But, wind, mud, tents and weirdo's in masks just ain't my bag of chips.

if you lot still believe the trance parties are filled with hippies, you are barking down the wrong wormhole.
the common garden variety trance monkey these days seems to be soft-mulleted pretty boys & hardbody club babes - plus what used to be the majority of the deep house scene. i can tell you that 70 - 80 % of people i know that go out regularly will be at any of the larger trance parties, and there ain't no hippies amongst them!
where d'ya think the music has it's strongest club night in cape town? Opium - not some Interdimensional Trance Cafe.
Dirty J

bobby>people from the deep house scene have always been shallow shmucks anyway. They will go where ever other people can see them...
As for Opium that ex-hot place to be seen is so done, yesterday, past its sell by date, gone the way of the dinosaurs....that the venue invites live heavy metal and wanna be rock bands to attempt to draw a few suckers through the door.
shame if trance is being played at Opium then the venue is having the last of its death rattle.....the next step will be to play reggae before finaly dropping dead....!
no great loss!!!!
As for the 70-80% of people you know who go out regularly..... they are all just drug addicts looking for a place to go use (or bum) drugs...it aint the music they go for!!!!! these people get so trashed they could party in a porta loo to the sounds of their neighbours bowel movements.....
Deffinately no hippies, but certainly trance monkeys.

2007-02-04 16:23:21+02:00
dirtyj> astonishingly they aren't drug addicts but really do enjoy trance music - i'm not sure which is the worst of the 2 options! fact of the matter is that they are generally the people i know that use the least drugs, and some of them actually go to trance parties drug free - the horror!
besides, if you spent 10 seconds of your time reading up on an addict's behaviour, you would learn that a classic symptom is isolation, not going out all the time.
perhaps you should get out more... oops!
sounds like you must have a truly broad musical appreciation, having managed to slate deep house, trance, rock, metal and reggae in one post. how impressive.
ps. yoo may wannt to chek yor spellings sumtyme.

Fully agree with Neil. You realy need to be on mind altering drugs to enjoy trance.
How long can one jump up and down to 140+ bpm music that is monotoneas as fuck without some sort of stimulant?

don't know - why don't you ask the drum 'n bass ''massive''?

bob> you are so right your trance head friends are real upstanding members of the community...
every community needs jobless bums to hate.
Drum n bass is one of the few original and intelligent music styles around....
Trance is commertial crap that has not released anything new or innovative in years...

bobbyblanko> i listen to drumb and base and i don't think anyone actualy dances directly to every "kick" in the sequence. it's nearly impossible. you normaly follow every second so that cuts it in half. with trance there's little beat variation so that's not possible.
Neil
2007-02-06 12:28:23+02:00
Two totally different music styles there, Trance is your doof doof, like all house music. The only difference is the bpm and the variations in elements.
Drum&Bass is your tick tock beat structure, similar to Hip-Hop or break beat.
If that makes any sense, its all a matter of taste from there, and if you actually have an ounce of rhythm in your bones.

dirtyj> ''educate me if you can''
ok, 'commercial' is not spelt with a 't'.
that aside, d & b (which i enjoy, btw), was initially built largely around a drum break made famous by new york hip hop djs in the 70's, so when we're talking 'originality', that's a redundant argument already.
10 points if you can name the break i'm referring to here... uh oh, time's up - no, i didn't think you could.
''every community needs jobless bums to hate'' - that's the kind of rhetoric that has ended up in millions of people being exterminated by weird little intolerant freaks like you.
aren't there any other hate sites you can spew off on, instead of this one?

"10 points if you can name the break i'm referring to here... uh oh, time's up - no, i didn't think you could."
The little bit in the middle of Incredible Bongo Band - Apache, which is a version of a track of the same name originally done by The Shadows.
Do they stil use it? Would've thought it would've been completely and utterly rinsed by now.

casual> the question was meant for DirtyJ.
as to whether or not it's still used, i don't know, - it was just a statement in reply to the ''originality'' of drum & bass. it's probably the most tired argument in the history of musical debate, second only perhaps to the ''dance music isn't real music'' comments by people that are into rock, etc. (ie. non electronic forms of music).
as mr robert marley says: ''music is music''.

2007-02-07 11:18:21+02:00
bobby> I'd be surprised if someone who was into would have no idea about the Apache break. You're right about the music is music bit, and to paraphrase an overused quotation by Duke Ellington - There are only two types of music, good and bad.

nathan> this is not even the tip......you should come see what kids are doing...
as for music the basics are the basics...4 beats in a bar and take it from there and go wild.
DnB is one of the fastest progressing genres. and looks to reinvent structure all the time and keep pace with societie changing "times"

lol... it all boils down to personal taste at the end of the day. any music style that focuses around a set bpm is gonna sound monotonous. especialy if you dont know the songs well. yes, a lot of drum 'n bass producers still uses the amen break... its such a fucking awesome break though, but 90% of producers dont. that's kinda like saying all house producers use the 909 kick...
Animal Chin
2007-03-13 14:10:36+02:00
oh yeh btw... very few tracks actualy uses the apache, especialy through the whole track. its more of an "edit" break. the amen is wayeeee more popular.
