Snow Patrol confirms an exclusive DJ set for the 2008 Miller Global Breakthrough Festival
Music’s hottest ticket headlines week long national festival with exclusive show in Cape Town
Cape Town: Miller Genuine Draft and Global Breakthrough confirmed today that one of music’s hottest tickets, Snow Patrol (Gary-Vocals and Tom-Keyboards), will headline this year’s event alongside some of the globe and South Africa’s finest DJ talent during the week-long festival. The Miller Global Breakthrough Festival kicks off in Cape Town on Wednesday 27 February and runs until Sunday 2 March at locations of the exotic and unusual, with events also planned in Gauteng’s Centurion and Soweto during that week.
The international line up includes techno, house and minimal wizard, Circoloco-Ibiza’s prized resident, Luciano who just this month was voted no. 2 best DJ in the world by Resident Advisor, deep house current favourite Henrik Schwarz playing a LIVE set and Âme –producer of the world-wide club smash hit Rej returns after the legendary DJ set at The Aquarium last year left people screaming for more. Alongside the visiting artists, a line-up of some of the best, most cutting edge local talent will be in action.
Says Miller Genuine Draft brand marketing manager Alistair Mokoena, “Apart from the massive entertainment value that this festival holds, it also serves as a space for artists to exchange ideas and gain learning from one another. The Miller Global Breakthrough Festival is an international talent platform for South Africa’s electronic industry and is run by people close to the scene.”
It is an experience that marks lives permanently, and without fail, positively.

I'm quite stunned or should I say I'm speechless. There you have it again a beneficial exchange djing extravaganza meant to exhalt the inner city kids of the RSA. Now I guess I have to speak up my mind quite frankly, SA music scenery is quite devided. The new breed of musicians in this country dwells so much on what economical imbalance has created. Alan and you Bobbyblanko, it is about time to face the new tide of the unknown, but the reality that will soon be unveiled.

You poor people of the rainbow nation, I think you are totally lost. You seem to legitimise segregational web policies, especially when become accomplices in toppling good commentry. Did my commentry offend your superior order? I guess not because each time you hear a word FREE STATE negativity just erupts without a cause. You know it so well that "FREE STATE IS DENIED SO MANY MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES" I wonder who is going to join you next, we have Bobbyblanko, Alan, Casual and the other guy I forgot to mention. How about if we fightalk about the MILLER EVENT?? because you fail to handle my commentry positively.

nothing to ''fight talk'' about really - i'm very impressed with the line up and scope of this event and cant wait to see luciano!
personally i dont give a flying toss where you're from - if you want to promote and develop artists from your area, be my guest - just don't rely on hardworking people in other cities to carry your weight.

Bobbyblanko did you ever read a line where I stated that I want to be promoted by the so called "CITY SUPER KIDZ" who have an access to mass publicity and capital? I believe in myself that I need no one's approval in what I know so well. Been located in Free State doesn't limit my artistry cause my artistry is so unique, so to any good artist elsewhere world wide. Stop this illusive mindset that a CITY BOY KNOWS THEM ALL & DOES THEM ALL I am the mastermind of my musical signature, and so is you Bobbyblanko. The world is getting smaller and got nothing to do with your city location or rural whereabouts. THE WORLD WANTS YOUR ARTISTICAL SIGNATURE

Lesley
2008-02-02 16:26:43+02:00
I want to rephrase my words, I do not need anyone's approval towards what I know so well. You might be from Orlando, Bronx, Brooklyn or any major city in the world. No musicianship trait is better than the next fellow musician, we are all unique guys. Alan, Bruno, Neil,Casual and Bobbyblanko you need to be respected in whatever you do. Now may you come to terms that I'm not here for a mistake cause I'm here to consciountize the masses about what we have in Free State. Is it a sin to pin point the ignorance that the SA major cities have towards my Province? We contributed so much in the SA music industry and so I have the right to talk about FREE STATE
Casual*
2008-02-02 20:41:01+02:00
Lesley, nobody has begrudged you the chance to talk about the musical happenings in the Free State. From what I can tell, not a single person on here has been elitist in anyway and declared themselves to be CITY SUPER KIDZ, pretty much everyone on here just happens to be from/or living in Cape Town.
How about you get an event going, send Alan the flier, write a short blurb about it and I'm pretty sure that Alan will advertise it, he has done so for events from there in the past.
Now get off your soap box and join in sans the long-winded diatribes .

2008-02-02 20:42:19+02:00
Oh and FYI, Bronx and Brooklyn aren't major cities, they're boroughs of New York City.
Lesley
2008-02-02 22:14:25+02:00
I'm not here to be told what to do guyz, I'm here to do what you also do, but in my unique way. Now about major cities in the world, they all have their suburbs and slums. Orlando is just the same like Bronx and Brooklyn man, though located in the West Coast. I know everything you think I really don't know broer even more. Lastly let me get this one straite, I got my own schedule of things. Will it be fair if I can say bring me your fliers here to me, even your projects as well cause I want to promote you. WILL YOU DO IT? I have no right to assume things, stop being presumptious cause you can't force a horse to any waters if doesn't wanna drink.

2008-02-02 22:37:39+02:00

Mr. Casualities hope I'm not one of your victims, cause that soundz like a brain quiz question to me, would you be specific man. Talking about entertainment in Free State I got a line up, from House Music bashes to Jazz events. I'll tell you when fit at my own time playa, no need to dictate cause I got your Cape Townian festivities each time I visit this site. I don't dictate any Cape Townian event, it just happen voluntarily. What a relieve at least now we are talking sense. Casual can I ask you about your involvement in the entertainment industry? What are you actually doing day in and day out?

2008-02-03 07:49:37+02:00
lesley> casual makes a good point: how about letting us know some names of talented Free State djs / producers? or telling us about an event / s that you are involved in promoting / playing / been to?
your argument of ''I'll tell you when fit at my own time playa, no need to dictate'' is bullshit - you're the one going on and on about how us city boys keep your Free State people down, so let us know how we can help by giving us some names to work with.
otherwise please stfu.
Lesley
2008-02-03 08:28:32+02:00
Are you aware that majority of South Africans do not know anything about Cape Town deejays. I would say the entire country don't know a thing about your activities down there. I would simply say Free State djing is more exposed than you guys guys down there. We only have to lobby with big promoters responsible for corporate branding, to host more events here in Free State. Guys you are the ones who needs to be exposed and promoted. Now how about you telling me about your hot djs and their profiles, so to know what I can do for them?!
bobbyblanko
2008-02-03 08:36:16+02:00

idiot.
Lesley
2008-02-03 09:27:11+02:00
Bobby! Dear Bobbyblanko you are living in a total different world. Do you know that majority of our people have no access to internet just like you and I?
You will be quite alarmed if we can conduct some research about your djs popularity, no ones know who the hell they are.
Its seems like they dont exist at all, ask anyone from North West, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng, KZN and Free State. They don't know you, never mind the response on site cause that will fool you. NO ONE KNOWS YOU GUYZ
bobbyblanko
2008-02-03 12:45:55+02:00
yep, no-one has ever heard of unknown cape town artists like:
sweat x - about to embark on a tour of europe and receiving amazing press coverage overseas
killer robot - nationally and internationally acclaimed minimal techno collective / club night
nano records - one of the worlds leading trance labels / dj collectives and organisers of this weekends 'origin' festival
algorhthym / counterstrike - some of the top drum & bass producers / djs in the world
i could go on all day, but instead i'll wait patiently for you to tell us about all that undiscovered free state talent that you have whining about that never gets exposed or recognised because us city boys dont look further than cape town.
so come on, speak up or shut the fuck up.

My fellow Cape Townians boyz, I know how you market your popularity guyz. Your are just bunch of idiots with no interest of what is happening around you.
You all care about what is happening beyond SA borders. You are so passionate about what the outside world offers you (Martinez Bro), the picture of the entire world to you is Cape Town and the rest of other countries beyond the African continent. I want to repeat myself, "NO ONE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE" you have given the entire world that what you play in CT represents the SA Dance music arena. Do you know what the majority of SA Dance music listens to?? YOU DONT KNOW because your mvsic listenership is very foreign. WE DONT KNOW WHO YOU ARE & THATS THE REALITY YOU GOT TO LIVE WITH
alan
2008-02-03 15:37:00+02:00

I have so much respect of what overseas Dance Music Djs/Producers are doing, and I enjoy their vibe so much. I have their total support but your attitudez sucks.
As you tour overseas, tell them the truth that there is variety in SA, tell them about the Durbanite music scenery, the arising soundz of Mpumalanga, the proudly SA sound of Pretoria, the genius mindz behind North West Motswako Underground, and of cause the talented presentation of Free State respected Djs, Dj Lebo M, Dj Sprite, Dj Sefate and PK. Demera the list is endless.
You see how broad I am, I even represent other Provinces because I listen to what SA is doing, and I'm supportive of their music as well. How broad you are guyz about the SA Dance scenery?? NO BODY KNOWS WHO THE HELL YOU ARE, VIRTUALY YOUR DEAD.
bobbyblanko
2008-02-03 18:31:22+02:00
how about this, kwaito boy - i send you some money and you buy a bus ticket out of your one horse town, wave a sad goodbye to the musica store and its collection of dj fresh albums that clearly shape the backbone of your musical knowledge, and you come and see what its like to live in a place that has a bit more variety than the 120bpm lame ass vocal house than the towns that you feel are so packed full of talent?
because in cape town we had the FIRST
hip hop scene
drum n bass scene
deep house scene
trip hop scene
psychedelic trance scene
minimal techno scene
in south africa
whilst the rest of you northern ladyboys were still having wet dreams about owning a 2 channel gemini.
Lesley
2008-02-03 19:56:50+02:00
Hahahahaha!! Kwaito boy!! "The 120bpm lame ass vocal house" This is an insult to the entire industry, I wonder what DJ Fresh has done to you personaly. Now what Musica has to do with this? Did anyone say something about the 2 channel Gimini deejaying gear?
Bobby there is a strong wind of change in the air, you can't forsee the future. There is so much in store and a safely kept talent in Free State, we are the heart and soul of the new musical movement. Bobby we were here when the Musical Revolution started in the early 90s. Stay alert 24/7 because we are more than ready to hit the globe. I wont disclosed the details, but the time is now. You better start making it all tight because the LORD OF THE HOUSE is about to regain his reign.

I can't wait for the wind of change on the 'musical scenery' that Prophet Lesley is foreshadowing. Les, it's been 15/16 years since you were there at the beginning of the musical revolution, taken you fuckers a while to make yourself known, no?
Lesley
2008-02-03 21:42:44+02:00
My! My! My! another stone headed Cape Townian. Casual we have been there from the very begining, and we let go the scene voluntarily cause the time wasn't appropriate. It was shortly after the fatal death of the 80s Bubblegum music, so it was too premature for us to introduce our people to new vibez. We are back in the game more stronger than ever before. I hope you too you are part of the revolution, don't fight it rather be part of it. Lastly do away with your "Kaapse Gedagtes" and be my proteges because the LACK OF YOUR POPULARITY worries me the most.
