Killer Robot presents Butane
Friday, 09 January 2009
Way back in April 2007, Killer Robot played host to St Louis born, Berlin resident, Andrew Rasse, otherwise known as Butane. Fresh from a string of minimalist releases on Dumb Unit, Catenaccio, Rrygular and his own imprint, Alphahouse, we knew we were in for an interesting evening. This turned out to be the understatement of the year. Over the course of his three hour set, Butane proceeded to turn Fiction inside out as he led everyone present down a dark winding path into musical oblivion and out the other side again. One KR regular and fellow dj described it thus: ‘it was sick man, the dude ripped my head off, cauterized the wound, cheese grated it open again, and then poured something horribly lethal in just to make things worse….it was dark, driving, rolling and freaking evil…’Of all the quality internationals we’ve had, we’ve never quite forgotten what Butane did on that night. So, two years later, we’ve asked him back to do it all over again. If you were there the first time, we don’t have to tell you, you’ll be there again, if you missed out, be sure you don’t let it happen again.
BUTANE
Owner of Alphahouse Records, accomplished producer, and jet setting DJ, Butane (Andrew Rasse) hails from the Midwestern United States, the birthplace of many great electronic music acts. His infamous Alphahouse monthly party put St. Louis on the current worldwide techno map, and his record label is regarded as one of the premier left-field techno/house labels in North America. Now resident in Berlin, Butane is a regular at all the premier clubs in the city, playing alongside some of the biggest names in the industry every weekend.
As a DJ, Andrew uses vinyl, Traktor Scratch, samplers, effects, and an unprecendented musical range to craft his sets. Hours of experience in some of the top underground clubs in the world enable him to move bodies while simultaneously keeping a distinctly heady vibe, no matter if its peak time or 6 in the morning. Technically gifted, with an ear for deepness, Butane presents the dj set as a trip into the unknown, and with his huge collection of new and old tracks alike, expect anything from seamlessly blended groovy, peak-time techno to warm, deep, heady house and dubbed out beats.
As a music producer, he runs his own influential Alphahouse imprint and his tracks have been featured on some of the world’s most forward-thinking underground labels from Dumb Unit to LessizMore. With over 12 EP’s and two albums to his credit, he has maintained a steady output of high quality music, all while touring to much acclaim. Licensing original tracks to mix compilations such as Matthew Dear’s Fabric mix, Luciano’s SciFi HiFi on Soma, and Damian Lazarus’ Get Lost mix, it’s obvious that his peers in the industry also hold his music in high regard. With his sound in demand at clubs from Fabric in London to Watergate and Weekend in Berlin to the rest of Europe, America, Asia, and beyond, he makes a strong case for himself as one of the true stars in this music scene.
This evening represents an exhibition of what is going on at the very epicentre of the techno explosion in Europe and America, as brought to you by Killer Robot. Miss it at your peril!
