RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMYLONDON’S CALLING!

The Red Bull Music Academy is a musical workshop that travels the world, and the next edition will touch down in one of the world’s greatest cities: London. Somewhere in the heart of that sprawling metropolis, a fantastic complex full of studios and instruments will be built, where the most original and creative minds in music will come together in February and March 2010 to share ideas and work on tunes.

Musical legends as well as brand new talents will take the inspiration they gain there and run with it, performing every night at showcases in the best vibe-filled venues London has to offer.

For over ten years now, each new Academy has explored the local musical geography, and chased the most interesting rhythmic threads across space and time. As well as studio time, there are lecture sessions where participants get to hear the answer to every music-related question they ever wanted to ask.

The Academy’s renowned guest lecturers have in previous years included Brazilian national icon and tropicalia ambassador Gilberto Gil; hip hop’s underground king & No. 1 Southern rapper, Bun B; MPC-architect and inventor of the first digital drum machine, Roger Linn; and French ‘Ed Banger’ party-starter DJ Mehdi. Check the Academy website for a full list of around 500 music makers who’ve graced the Academy’s lecture room and studios.

From May 11th to July 27th this year, the world’s up and coming producers, instrumentalists, vocalists and DJs worldwide are invited to apply for one of two terms at the Academy in London.

To provide a taster of the Academy experience, more than 100 Local Workshop Sessions are already being held all around the world. It’s a rare opportunity for beat makers and music lovers to come together and swap inspiration with full-fledged pioneers of sound.

Before, after, or without joining a local workshop, they can simply log in to www.redbullmusicacademy.com from May 11th to download the application form.

It’s A London Thing

Plugging Into The Megalopolis

In spring 2010, the Red Bull Music Academy will bring its incredible combination of cultures, generations and artistic viewpoints to the UK’s capital: one of the world’s foremost iconic cities, with its unique mix of people and culture that has proved a tasty recipe time and time again.

London has a unique non-stop energy, which ensures its nightlife and culture are streets ahead of everyone else. Vital musical and creative movements have always provided the pulse of this massive city – dreamed up in pubs or flats, beamed out on global broadcasters or pirate radios, and staged in top ticket concert halls or on the systems at Carnival. New sounds are constantly rolled out in the London clubs and record stores that music fanatics the world over dream of visiting.

Another important thing about London is its many personalities, provided by vibrant communities and boroughs. Complex historical narratives link the city to countries across oceans, and inform the UK’s diverse cultural landscape. Rain or shine, the city is one big laboratory for art, music, fashion and theatre – and has always been a spiritual home for the Red Bull Music Academy.

Have a listen to recordings from the world’s best clubs and festivals, tailor-made DJ sets, and interview-based formats at:
www.redbullmusicacademyradio.com

The Red Bull Music Academy also curates stages at the world’s top festivals, such as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival in the USA, Melt! in Germany and Sónar in Spain. The inspiration for all of this year-round content and activity is percolated at the yearly Academy event. Right about now, emerging singers, drummers, producers, composers and DJs near you are invited to apply to join the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy in London, to jam perspectives and bring outlandish musical ideas into reality. Philip Sherburne writes an uncharacteristically laconic post mortem of the Love Parade tragedy:

If you're an angry white male in your late 20's into metal, a band is looking for a singer.

The brief:

You:
25-35, good sense of humour, lank charisma, must drink beer and hard tack, must look the part, must tune lank, have strong opinions, must prefer the old south africa, must have own transport, must be angry, must be white, english or afrikaans, must be a total mental metal head to the core. Must like, listen to, be able to sing: Slayer, The Haunted, Snot, At The Gates, Lamb of God, Pantera, etc. No death/black metal.

We:
36, 37, 41, we laugh a lot, we have loads of charisma, we drink beer and cider mixed together and we drink tack mixed with anything or on it's own, we have strong opinions and we tune lank kak, we are english white people and we prefer the old south africa, we listen to Slayer, The Haunted, At The Gates, Lamb of God, The Refused, Faith No More, Machine Head, Billy Talent, Pantera, Carnal Forge, Snot, Alexisonfire, Deftones, Tool, Gallows, you get the picture.

We have access to the best studio and award winning producer in the country and will record our second full length album next year. Other than that we have nothing planned.
So if you think you can hack it and work with us, we will certainly give you a try and let's rock out.
e mail us your story if you are keen, and if you don't fit the description - don't bother us.

a truly hilarious quote from dinkys hype / blurb / blah when describing how her broad range of sounds come together:

''something like a sun-dappled clearing in the woods''

ok then.

bobbyblanko

that would be 'undervalued'

now, now, Navs, i'll have no dissing of Mr Richards round here, ta.

if anything hes unervalued. it takes quite a bit of talent to hold down a residency at a place like fabric for a couple years...

Good riddance they booked the same overpriced djs who with there narrow minded thinking tend to not think beyond their’s and their mates record labels when playing, incest that ran the same gauntlet forever, recurring on an annual basis. residents Terry Francis, Richards anyone???...pretty overrated huh. Change is good; no one club should dominate the landscape. I hope to god this happens to an unORIGINal club in my town…with the winds of change blowing briskly into the sails it’s already starting to happen.

Long live Berghain with their dominant music policy and indestructible residents.

tragic. some of my best club experiences ever at that place. Looks like Matter completely backfired on them. they had to pump millions into it to keep it alive and now its taken them down with it.
