Once upon a time there was a radio show. For nine glorious years it caused a weekly lurch in the force. It was ‘ardkore. A late night radio programme of brazen beats, sometimes mixed, often scratched and frequently stapled together. Broadcast from 1995 until 2004, first on MFM in Stellenbosch and later across the city on Bush 89.5, ‘ardkore was a unique outlet for Cape Town’s electronic musical prowess. There were enough fine DJ and artist outings to make one weep. The show also led to the community of artists, designers and media inventors at Liquid Fridge.

And now, past guests of ‘ardkore are reuniting to celebrate the birthday of the man behind all this ‘ardness. To mark this event, Martin Sims and some of his most esteemed ‘ardkore collaborators are readying themselves to once more disturb, delight and deliver a night of deep-dub-electro-jazz-bass-tech-hop with bleeps, sweeps and the odd crooner classic.

We invite all spinners, players, friends, followers, spoilers and spotters of this long-lost radio show to a night of merriment and mayhem - hardcore, you know the score.

Expect music from all corners:

ZIMMER, BUSSY MEET AND PLAY (Open Record, Upland Music)
Untempered free percussion engine (Niklas Zimmer) with disposable Windows machine and horny mandolin (Brendon Bussy).

BRUNO MORPHET (Killer Robot, Return To The Deep)
Killer Robot resident Bruno Morphet spices up a crisp base of techno with sprinklings of dub, slices of house and high cholesterol lashings of synthpop.

CY COWBOYS (Cheap Tricks)
Pass the dutchie… slam a tequila… dance to Q & Kakpraat’s electro, rock, breaks, techno, kitchen sink mash-up.

MICROSTRIPE (Sound Squad, Big Love)
Microstripe breaks the breakbeat.

RADIOBOY (‘ardkore)
Mr ‘ardkore presents a programme of contemporary listening for the discerning gyrator. Dubstepping, techno, bass wobbles with a swirl of nostalgic nonsense delivered with an almost maniacal grin.

H (Liquid Fridge)
Charlie don’t surf.

The event will be streamed live on PASS Radio at http://www.panafricanspacestation.org.za

See you there.
